The area of the Rainbow 2E showing is underlain basalt to andesite of the Lower Jurassic Telkwa Formation, Hazelton Group. A stock of granodioritic quartz feldspar porphyry of the Late Cretaceous Bulkley Plutonic Suite intrudes to the west. The stock is known as the Sunsets stock.

Malachite stains occur along fractures in andesite tuff that also hosts and disseminated pyrite and tetrahedrite. Sample MR-67 assayed 0.2 gram per tonne gold, 107.0 grams per tonne silver, 1.8 per cent copper and 0.12 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 21765). Another nearby sample contained a 20 centimetre wide barren quartz vein with massive magnetite band adjacent. Minor chalcopyrite is reported.
